What is the Lymphatic System?

Often referred to as the second circulatory system, the Lymphatic System, flows throughout the entire body and directly effects our Primary Immune System. The translucent Lymph filters foreign matter and removes excess fluid, protein and toxins from the tissues and transports them to the blood to be circulated and eliminated. If the Lymph didn't do its job, you would die from protein poisoning within 24 hours. Unlike the circulatory system, the Lymphatic System has no heart to keep fluids moving. Lymph is moved slowly along with assistance from muscle contractions and pulsation of nearby arteries, while negative pressure in the chest cavity provides suction. So, when the Lymphatic System becomes compromised or the Lymph Nodes become blocked, a condition of stagnation occurs.

Symptoms

When the Lymphatic System is not functioning at its optimum numerous conditions may occur.

*Swollen & Painful Lymph Nodes

*Headaches

*Skin Problems

*Chronic Fatigue

*Constant Colds, Flu, Sinus Issues

*Excess Water Weight

*Muscle Soreness

Just to name a few...

Lymphatic DrainageTechnique

Lymphatic Drainage Therapy-LDT is a gentle technique that works through the body's lymphatic system to activate the body's fluid circulation and stimulate the function of the immune and parasympathetic nervous systems. Therapists work with flat hands, using all the fingers to stimulate gentle, specific, wave-like movements.

In spite of its understated and delicate technique, Lymphatic Drainage Therapy is one of the most powerful and satisfying types of bodywork available. The smooth pumping action has an immediate lulling and relaxing effect on your autonomic nervous system. You leave the session feeling calm and energized. The therapy involves the use of gentle manual maneuvers to aid in the re-circulation of body fluids. A very light pressure is used. Deep enough so that you do not slide over the skin, but light enough so that you do not feel anything below the skin. It is hard to believe that something so light could be so effective! Using this technique therapists are able to detect direction, rhythm, sequence, and quality of Lymph flow in the body.
